Omaha Association of Health Underwriters Receives Pacesetter Award

The Omaha Association of Health Underwriters (OAHU) has been recognized for the Pacesetter Award. The criterion for receiving this award includes attendance at national and regional meetings, chapter management, hosting local meetings and events, communications, membership activities and growth, public service projects, media relations efforts, and continuing education.
“The leadership of NAHU members has a far-reaching impact on providing for the healthcare needs of individuals, families and business in their communities. We are grateful for OAHU’s hard work and recognize them with this well-deserved award,” said NAHU CEO Janet Trautwein.
“OAHU exemplifies the dedication to providing the best opportunities for our members,” said Monica McDonald, OAHU president. “Throughout the year, Omaha AHU has organized a variety of educational events and community service projects which have set a standard of excellence in the health insurance industry that we are proud to represent.”
Nebraska’s Mike Gray Receive NAHU's Highest Honor
The National Association of Health Underwriters honored Michael D. (Mike) Gray, RHU as a recipient of the Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award at the organization's 92nd Annual Convention this week in Austin, Texas.
Mike is a Vice President with FNIC Trusted insurance advisors and is based in Lincoln.
Awarded annually to the industry's "Person of the Year," the Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award is NAHU's highest honor. Winners are selected by a committee of past recipients based on the contributions they have made to the health insurance industry.
"For more than 25 years, Mike Gray has worked relentlessly to grow the association," Janet Trautwein, CEO of NAHU said. "His hard work and passion have inspired countless members to step up and become leaders within the industry. Though he never seeks recognition for his accomplishments, he is incredibly deserving of this award."
Mike has held leadership positions in his local (Lincoln) chapter, in the Nebraska state chapter and as the Region 4 vice president on NAHU's Board of Trustees. He has recruited more than 70 new members into the association.
Mike is perhaps best-known as the driving force behind NAHU's political action committee, HUPAC. Under his leadership, HUPAC has grown and fundraised to new levels.
Mike's selflessness, people-centered leadership and dedication aren't limited to the NAHU community. He serves on the board of the Community Health Partners Initiative (CHPI), which aims to improve the health of people in Lincoln and Lancaster Counties in Nebraska. At CHPI, he championed an effort to secure a grant for a health center that now helps thousands of individuals each year.
Mike is a friend to all and a committed leader who always puts others before himself. His dedication to improving his association and his community has served as an inspiration to everyone who knows him.
The NeAHU congratulates Mike for this outstanding achievement!

SEP commission clarity from CMS
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding compensation paid by issuers to agents and brokers who assist consumers with enrollment during a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) or during Open Enrollment Periods (OEPs). The Biden-Harris Administration has made it a priority to provide those who are uninsured and underinsured with quality, affordable health care coverage and recognizes that agents and brokers play a vital role in helping consumers enroll in coverage that best fits their needs and budget.
CMS has become aware that some issuers in the individual market, who commonly use agents and brokers as part of their marketing and sales distribution channels, have reduced or eliminated commissions and other forms of compensation to agents and brokers for enrollments during an SEP.
The FAQs provide guidance that paying differential compensation to agents and brokers for coverage in the same benefit year based on whether the enrollment is completed during an SEP or during the OEP is prohibited under federal law. These practices violate the guaranteed availability protections afforded to these individuals under the Affordable Care Act.
